Great receiver, especially for the pirce!
I am loving this receiver so far! This receiver has all the basic features you would possibly need. It sounds great, even with factory cheapo speakers. I bought this unit mainly for the AUX input so I can play my iPod. Sure, you can get receivers that will control your iPod, but look how much more they cost! This is a better unit than one I bought years ago for 0! The remote is not very useful to me and is very small. It looks like it is made to go on a key chain. However, I did not buy this unit for the remote. The FM tuner works better than the factory unit. CD player works great and hasn't skipped a beat yet. At the time of this review, I haven't tried an .mp3 data disc in this unit yet. This unit does not come with a case for the detachable face, but I won't be taking it off anyway. I am not too worried about somebody breaking in for a receiver.

My only con's about this unit would be the very small buttons and the volume knob is a little shallow and hard to grab . I have large hands so it is a little difficult to operate the receiver, but I will get used to it.

My Wife Loves this...
I installed this myself (!) in my wife's 98 Rav 4; first installation for me, but with the Internet, you can do anything. The install was a snap, the radio works great, even plays our iPod using just a mini-plug cable. I thought it sounded pretty good, but my wife says it is much, much better than her factory radio that I replaced. My complaints are really minor: 1: You can't change the color of the display, and 2: If a station is weak you can change to monaural, but it changes all the stations to mono. I really recommend this radio.

works excellent,very loud and clear,great features,plays mp3 Cd's,up to 150 songs on one disk is awesome,love the remote and red buttons,display is easy to see,aux is nice and works well,tuner works good,it gets pretty hot after a while of usage,i believe that's normal though seeing the mosfet supply and heat syncs are mounted along the back side. if i needed another stereo deck,i would highly consider getting another one. JVC is also a well known name brand and has been around for decades so you know your getting the best quality without sacrificing reliability.

I'd buy it again
Three words.....Japan Victor Corporation....JVC. Love these units, easy in, easy use, long lasting, reasonably priced. I did order a Sony for my son's car this time, but have had JVC for years and LOVE them! I think the remote is kind of a stupid thing, but all my cars are small and I just reach over and make change.

Great Stereo!
I just bought and installed this Pioneer DEH-1200MP. Bought it for a song, and it is a great unit. Installation was simple, build quality feels good, it sounds good, and is easy to use. I like the fact that it has plenty of radio presets, plays CD's of all different formats (havent't tried them all just yet) and it has an input for my iPod to boot! Like others have mentioned, the buttons are small, so for this older guy, they're hard to read, even with readers! But they're very easy to remember, and navigation is intuitive, so no problems there.
All in all, a really great car stereo for the price!!

Really nice.
I was a bit skeptical due to how discounted I got it.. But my cynicism was completely unwarranted. It fits very well into my 2000 Honda Accord, and sounds awesome. When using the AUX outlet for my iPod, the volume does go down a bit, but it's nothing that a little volume cranking won't fix; it's really not all that serious of a problem anyways. I would definitely recommend this to friends/family/strangers. I'm not a real techie type, but this is a really good product for me.

An excellent player for the money!

I paid less than eighty dollars for this brand new unit at a local store and am very impressed with what I got. I bought it to replace my radio in my RV. It has everything I need which basically is just the simple audio-input jack. Between that and the cigarette charger for power, I connect my iPhone with Pandora and I'm all set for a road trip.

The radio is pretty decent as far as the quality goes. It sounds great! An improvement over OEM stereos for sure!

The buttons are small but you get used to them. I think they could have been slightly larger but this was a design decision. I disagree with the previous person stating that the knob it too shallow. That person must have abnormally large fingers because I thought the knob is quite nice.

The radio is decent. It got all of my stations with no hassle. Memorizing stations is dead simple: Hold down the number you wish to save to and walla. That's the way it should be.

The CD playback is as expected. The audio sounds great. MP3 playback is somewhat cumbersome but it's no different than any other stereo on the market when it comes to searching/finding/playing MP3's that are in folders. (how primitive, BTW)

The AUX 1/8" input jack is the key feature here...You can input anything from a DVD player to an iPhone, iPod, Zune, whatever...It does the job and amplifies it.

The remote was killer for me because in an RV, I can control the deck from the kitchen table and that is a great feature. A little velcro on the back of the remote and I've got instant convenience that I will never lose.

The quality of the deck is higher than I expected for a sub 0 radio. The knob felt heavy and quite precise when turning. The other buttons are very small, however and ... forget reading what is printed on them. You really have to take the time to memorize them. It's minor but should be noted for those that may not be able to see smaller things.

My only gripe was that the manual did not give instruction on how to set the clock! I read it 5x times and never saw the instruction for setting the time! I was stunned not to see this. What an oversight. For those that need to know: Turn the unit off by pressing and holding the main knob. Now press and hold the clock button and press and hold the main knob. The 12: will start to flash. Now press the up/down buttons then when you are done, press the left/right buttons and when you are done, just press the main knob and its set. How crazy that they didn't tell you that (I spent over an hour pressing buttons like a monkey until I figured out the right combination)

Even with that oversight in the manual, I still give it 5 stars. It was easy to connect and very straightforward. I'm certain it will give me years of quality playing while in the RV.

I purchased this unit for a 1995 Nissan Sentra and could not be more happy. I keep the Sentra around because I drive a lot and it gets great gas mileage. This unit allows me to use my iPhone and worked seamless after install. The unit was easy to install and was no hassle to set up and use. I recommend this to any one for a low end unit. Thanks Kenwood, you have made my driving experience much more pleasurable.

Chose this over a lot of others
I did a lot of research when looking for a receiver to replace my factory unit in my 2000 Miata. I wanted to be able to play my iPod video and use a USB thumbdrive without getting into a lot glitz. For the money this Kenwood is a solid buy.
Pros:
-I love the power this puts out. The clarity of the music that I get even with the top down is fantastic.
-The controls are fairly intuitive and I like that it has hard buttons which are easy to find and use while driving. There is a small learning curve as far as customizing your settings, but it's fairly straightforward. The main rotary knob has a solid feel to it and is easy to adjust while driving.
-The display is simple without a lot of dancing lights and so on.
-Hooks up easily with my iPod, scrolls through all the normal iPod settings: Genre, artist, albums, etc with ease.
-The Ipod also charges when hooked into the USB port.
-The USB port has a cover which feels solid when moving it.
-Don't know how much I'll use the remote, but it is nicely designed and feels well made.
Cons:
-Sunlight seriously wipes out the display screen, making it difficult to read without straining your eyes.
-The unit activates my power antenna whenever it's turned out, even if the radio isn't engaged. I don't love having the antenna constantly up.

For the price, I'm well pleased with this Kenwood. I looked around, and couldn't find a receiver that would solve all my wants in this price range. The Kenwood seems like it's well made, it handles lots of formats and is easy to use. All in all a good receiver.

Couldnt have expected less from kenwood
I made a purchase from Nigeria on 20th July, got it delivered at a friend's place in Maryland third day.
Installation was quite easy, navigation is wonderful, works as designed. The only negative side is that when a thumb drive hangs on and you decide to listen to the tuner/CD, if you switch off engine and restart, the unit defaults back to USB even though you were not on USB mode. This is strange, hope Kenwood would do something about this. Notwithstanding, it's the best you can get for that price anywhere.

Good value for Bluetooth happiness
In the before-time a tape adapter rattled noisily along with the music and podcasts from my HTC Fuze. The stock headunit in my Acura did not know the way of the Bluetooth. So, it had to go.

Installation wasn't difficult - requiring the right adapters and a bit of soldering. (The painful part was excavating the Acura's dash to gain access to the radio itself.) It is strongly recommended that you get a compatible microphone because the built-in one is unsatisfactory. My favorite features, so far, are:

1) Bluetooth audio from my smartphone. The bluetooth paired just like the manual said, and the sound is just fine through my stock speakers. Since I have a dash-mount for my phone, I don't care that it doesn't present my media library on the front panel.

2) Bluetooth phone calling. With the external mic, I have no problem being understood. It's so much safer and more convenient than holding a phone to my ear.

3) USB media library. I copied some favorite tunes to a spare thumbdrive and plugged it into the port. The interface is a bit simple - you can only increment albums or tracks. In my humble opinion, this makes the CD player (and tuner for that matter) entirely superfluous.

One thing to keep in mind is that this is only about half the cost of replacing a factory headunit. (Less, if you intend to replace speakers or add a subwoofer.) I found many of the other parts that I needed at a competitor's site (*cough* Crutchfield *cough*) including:
- Dash kit
- PAC SWI-PS steering wheel control kit
- External mic
- Wiring adapter

If you want more features, or better sound, there are other makes and models that serious audio buffs prefer. However, for my wallet, and desired features, this fit the bill just fine.

Nice
Works well. Easy install. ipod 3g syncs. I'm not sure about navigating through the ipod music with the stereo itself. It's touted as a great feature, but to me it seems to over complicate things, so I switched to what I think they call "passenger mode"...which means controlling it through the ipod itself. My ipod will sync with bluetooth, and that's fine if I forget the cord, but I keep it plugged into the usb to charge it.

I haven't tried the bluetooth with my phone since I use something else, so I can't comment on that.

One question to anyone else using an ipod... is there a way to make it so that it doesn't start playing automatically when the usb cord is plugged in? It always starts alphabetically from the songs list and so I hear the beginning of the same song every time I plug it in until I get settled. Just throwing that out there since I cant find any info anywhere.

overall it's a decent system.

Combined the Sony unit with the following components to replace my factory receiver in my 06 Nissan Frontier Crew-Cab.

Paired to my Android phone, I can stream my music to the unit and make hands-free calls. Pairing was super simple and the quality of the sound is great. Unit powers up and connects with my phone. Both Audio and Hand-free icons appear in addition to the bluetooth logo once connected.

Combined with the extra options for USB and Aux connections, this provides as much flexibility as I could need.

To install I removed the old unit, then soldered the wiring harness above to the harness that came with the unit. All wires color matched except with the exception of the amplifier and phone wires - neither of which I needed.

Great Radio
I installed this in my Sprinter Westfalia camper and it was quite a breeze, fit perfectly. The sound quality is good and the USB front jack is great for my ipod as well as my 4GB flash drive. There were no hiccups. If you're installing this in a sprinter make sure you buy a harness with adpater plug, makes life REALLY easy.

Not Bad
The stereo works well. The sound quality is much better than my older sony head unit. The Bluetooth capability works well except for the microphone. My car is rather noisy and that is probably the main problem. People said that I seemed really far away and once I started driving they couldn't hear me very well. Everything else seems to work well. I will check into the external mic and see how that works.

Garmin Ecoroute HD
Pure crap...not only did it not work for more than 2 minutes at a time it totally screwed up my 1490T...even now the sound refuses to come on at startup about 75% of the time. After 4 hard resets and a bunch of fiddling I am living with the fact that this garbage gadget has, basically, ruined my 1490T. RUN AWAY...FAR AWAY...DO NOT BUY THIS GADGET!

Initial buyer's remorse, but now glad I purchased.
It was extremely easy to install and configure with my Garmin Nuvi 1490T. It does exactly what it says it does. Honestly I had a bit of buyer's remorse after using it for a day, because it didn't seem like it was worth 0. However I decided that paying 0 for a GPS that included all the features of my 1490T plus the ecoRoute HD would have seemed like a good deal. Since that's what I paid in total, I decided it wasn't that bad of a deal.

Besides, if my engine light goes on, I'll be glad to know what the code is BEFORE calling the repair shop.

I've taken a couple long road trips now since purchasing, and yes, I'm glad I had this.

has a bug
gauges appear accurate with good selection to choose from, easy setup,have not had any check engine lights so i dont know how well the diagnostics work, the one issue i have found is my gps unit will not run on battery pwr while it is connected to the eco routehd device. for example if you turn off the car to get gas you the gps unit shuts down. the gps gives you the option to run on battery pwr but it does not accept your choice as long as there is a bluetooth connection to the ecoroute hd makes no differance if your gps is in nav mode or gauges mode the unit shuts off and you have to restart when you start the car back up,garmin techs said maybe a fix is in the works.

Fun but early bugs
Easy setup in my VW Touareg. Just did 1500 mile trip. 1st day, worked well. 2nd day, started getting "new vehicle detected" message and had to reenter vehicle data every 100 miles or so, which erases all history. The instant mpg stopped being correct (meaning matching the dashboard instant mpg digital guage) after day 1. Runs about 10 mpg under actual..

Did the update to my 1490t when i bought it, and now when connected to the Garmin updater it says an update is available, which I then do, and then it says An update is available. Have updated about 5 times and still says an update is available, after following the reboot imstructions, etc. Don't know if this is related to the ecoroute or not.

The guages are fun to watch but since the mpg is no longer accurate, not as useful.

Also not sure why I have to keep reentering my estimated average mpg. Isn't that the point of this product?

Very cool
I've been using this for about a week with my Garmin nüvi 1690, and while I haven't really done a lot of driving this week, I like it so far. I'll be going on a long trip next week, so if anything changes, I'll try to come back and post an update.

Installation was very quick and easy - only took about five minutes. When I'm connected, it changes the ecoRoute icon to ecoRoute HD in the tools menu. On the map screen, I now have the option to display MPG, in addition to the options that were already there. When I tap on the speed/speed limit icon on the map, it has changed the look of the stats there, and I think it looks better. The fuel cost option keeps count, even when you're idling at a red light, or in the parking lot. You can sit there and literally watch the pennies add up while you're sitting at a light. Other than the layout, and a continuous updating of the fuel cost stats, it also added gauges for the RPMs, battery, and engine temperature, and everything now fits on one screen, rather than having to scroll down to see parts of it. The ecoChallenge (green leaf) on the map seems a lot more accurate now, and when you click on it, it no longer shows today's overall score in the upper left corner, but has fuel economy instead. In the ecoRoute menu, it added icons for gauges and diagnostics. I haven't really had any need to check the diagnostic codes, though I did look just to experiment with it, and it said there were "no codes found," and that "[my] vehicle reports it is ready for emissions testing." The fuel economy display now shows your current MPG in a circle in the middle of the other four stats. The default gauges it shows are smaller, in each corner, and are engine load, coolant temp, timing advance, intake air, and then a big one in the middle that shows RPM. You can change any of them, and other options include mass air flow, throttle position, battery voltage, and speed. As soon as I turn the car off, it shows me my stats for that trip, and says the "vehicle has turned off" (before I got the ecoRoute HD, my 1690 just stayed on after I turned off the car, as the cigarette lighter still had power, or it said "external power has been lost" if I took it out of the mount).

That's about all the visible differences I can think of that were caused by connecting the ecoRoute HD. I guess the fuel cost estimates for when you look up places should be more accurate (assuming you use the at the pump feature), as it should have much better data about your fuel economy. Same with the MPG, cost, and amount of fuel you used that it shows you when you turn off the car or take the GPS out of the mount.

The only thing bad thing I have to say about it is that it seems to have caused some problem with the Bluetooth connection between my phone and the 1690. Now, if I don't have the car on so that it can connect to the ecoRoute HD, when I turn on the 1690, it connects to my phone, says "cannot connect to Bluetooth device," and then disconnects from my phone. I can manually tell them to connect again, either from the 1690 or from my phone, but it only stays connected for a minute or two, and then disconnects again. It doesn't seem to have any problem when the car is on and the 1690 is communicating with the ecoRoute HD.

I'm finally free from Nike+
I'm a new runner and I have been using the Nike+ system for several years now. Sadly the footpod for the Nike+ system never worked well and would time out if I had periods of inactivity or too slow activity.

I am happy to have found Garmin and their awesome products!! I do a lot of treadmill running and I purchased the Garmin footpod to use with my Garmin Forerunner 405CX and my Edge 705 bike computer. i'm not sure that the footpod syncs with the 705 since I've only ever tried to use it when I was outside and the 705 was using the GPS function to track my location, but I did receive cadence info from it so it must be doing something! The footpod works beautifully with the Forerunner 405CX. It's an essential accessory to anyone who does treadmill training in addition to outdoor running.

Syncing the footpod with the Garmin devices is simple and I've never experienced the connectivity issues that I did with the Nike+ system. My footpod is always recognized within seconds of beginning and I get great feedback on my various devices.

I have also used this with the FR60, but not on a regular basis. I didn't have any problems connecting with that device either. Garmin really has their stuff together with the ANT+ technology!!

Stopped working after 6 months
I bought one of these as a kit to go with the Garmin Forerunner 50. It worked OK for about 6 months and then stopped working altogether. It turns on by shaking it (or walking) to get the sensor to wake up and the LED flashes to let you know it's on. Even after replacing the battery with a new one I could not get the sensor to turn on (no LED flashes, no data collected on the Garmin). I used it for about 500-600 miles of running, and it was not over-exposed to moisture (I typically run on a treadmill when it rains hard).

When it did work, it was difficult to calibrate my pace. I measured several areas where I run and no matter how many times I tried calibrating the unit to these known distances, it would give me results that were close but still an average of 10-15% off. The only time it worked really well was if you maintained roughly the same pace and stride pattern as was used when you calibrated it, and ran on the same types of surfaces. So for trail runs or tempo/interval/sprint days, it was always off. Different shoes threw it off also.

I would have given it 1 1/2 stars if that was possible. Two seems acceptable since I did get some use out of it and it did help me to work on maintaining a steady pace during my runs (even if the recorded pace was wrong).

Foot Pod works as advertised
I am using this footpod with the Forerunner 305 I purchased at the same time. Pairing the device with the 305 was easy and the 305 immediately detects the pod when I power it up in the vicinity. In the winter many of my runs are on an indoor track or treadmill. Calibration out of the box was pretty good, registering 6.08 miles for what should be a 6.0 mile track run.

Works Great
Overall great product. Easy to use and simple connection to the Garmin 305. I use mostly for teadmill workouts. Only concern is that if you plan on running different tempos during the same run, it's accuracy is a little off. For example, if calibrate it for my slow 9:30 min pace, and then do a speed interval at 7:30, the distance will be off slightly unless stop and recalibrate to the 7:30 pace or initially calibrate it to somewhere in between. However, I love the cadence feature, which has really helped me improve my form and pace (I was running 159 steps/minute and now I run 180 after training with it for a couple of weeks). It fits securely into my shoelaces and can be removed easily when I run outside and want to use the GPS features of the watch. (The footpod will override the GPS distance if you try to use them both)

Edit: Amazon swiched products. This review is for the Garmin 010-11092-00 Foot Pod Personal GPS Tracker. For some reason they switched this product page to the old Garmin foot pod. I reviewed the new model.

I bought the foot pod so I could use my 405CX on an indoor track and have been pleased with the results.

Calibration was easy. On the Garmin 010-00658-30 Forerunner 405CX GPS Sport Watch with Heart Rate Monitor (Blue) you can calibrate it using the GPS or a 400m track. I chose to use the GPS and it had me run .66 of a mile. Was easy and seems to be pretty accurate. The only issue is that you need to calibrate it at the pace you usually run at. For instance I usually run at a 10 minute/mile pace but since I was only running .66 miles while calibrating it I ran at a much faster pace throwing it off a bit.

Running on a .10 mile indoor track after 3.5 miles it was off by about 50' more by the end of the run. Not perfect by any means but I could probably calibrate it more (or you can adjust it manually) to key it in.

I don't use it running while outside, but if you don't like the pace setting of the GPS you can have the watch display pace according to the foot pod instead.

Installation and removal is easy. The instructions say it will fit in an insole pocket if your shoe has one, but mine does not. To attach it to the laces you slide the mounting bracket under two X's where your shoe laces cross then snap the pod over the top. To remove you have to press a tab that unhooks it. It's very secure and takes a lot of pressure to remove it. I have no fear that it will come off while running.

I am very happy with the pod, it works very well, and is easy to use. If you want to use your GPS watch on a treadmill or indoor track during the winter months, it's a must have.

Mediocre Quality
These cables are of mediocre quality, with their insulated jacket material somewhat mixed into some of the outer layers of the wire strands. The freshly-stripped copper shows signs of oxidation, probably from being manufactred of recycled copper.

I'm not complaining, as due to the bargain price, I got what I paid for. The cables are very flexible, making them easy to route. Would I buy them again? Yep!

great inverter and easy to install
I am not an engineer - but I bought this inverter with a Sharp 80W solar panel and a Sunforce charge controller to provide lights in a barn. The power company wanted to charge me 0 to connect power, a month connection fee, and usage It took about a 1/2 day to set things up. Of course the hardest part was installing the solar panel. Once that was done, it was very easy to connect the panel to the charge controller and to the battery. I bought a Sears Marine Battery that is charged by the panel and I run the Cobra inverter off of the battery. I run shop lights and CFC (11W) bulbs for light, radio, and low watt fan. Its great and should pay back in a year. If you have a very low power use application - then this will work.

Good quality cables
Good quality cables, I purchased them for the cobra 1500 watt DC power inverter. the cables where a bit long for what I needed them for but I could always use the rest for other projects. They don't come with the 30 amp fuse though as suggested in the instructions. You don't really need the high amp fuse unless your using the DC power inverter and cables for an appliance that draws massive amps like an air conditioner or large home appliance in that case you should use a high amp fuse or your cables and power inverter may over heat and catching fire. I use my Cobra DC power inverter for my 1000 watt coffee pot and power tools like a drill and saw when I'm repairing or building a board fence in the pasture. The Cobra 1500 watt power inverter and cables work well for my needs, plenty of amps without heating up. I have a diesel 2500 Ram pick up and realized that the the engine compartment was limited on space to install the power inverter. If you have this problem you could do what I did, I cut a 2x6 board in the length of the passenger side battery and cut a groove in the middle of the board to run the batteries mounting screw though, it held the board tightly in place. I than bolted the power inverter to the board. Note: you have to mount the inverter to the board before you install it. So the inverter sits bolted to the side of the battery on a board facing up. The shorter you make the power cable the better your power inverter will perform. I used less than a foot of cable and I don't see it interfering with the battery in anyway. It works for me.

Not a bad price, but copper quality is questionable
If Monster cable could only see the copper inside this jacket. Normally when you cut a piece of heavy cable in the center and strip back the insulation you see nice shiny copper. Granted the ends may be oxidized a bit but they are open to the air - I cut this at the halfway point to make 2 shorter cable sets or 4 equal cable pieces. This cable, while being nice and flexible, looked like an old penny inside - heavily oxidized and ugly as sin. I suspect its reclaimed copper 2 times over without proper slag removal. That's the only reason I took away one star.

Also the crimp lugs supplied leave a tad to be desired, but they include some properly sized red and black heatshrink. You are supposed to put the stripped cable into the lugs then fold each half over the other with "electricians pliers" - My professional crimper was able to fold them but not close them tight on the wire, so out came the persuader - a 16 oz claw hammer and some cement. Yep - that closed the crimp nice and snug on the wire. Now it has a good snug grip. I did buy some professional #4 lugs at the hardware store made of copper like a shiny penny and my professional crimper did those justice, so their lugs are a tad sub par but you can put them on with just about anything. Alternately I could have hit it with a propane torch and fed some solder to it, which I may still do if there is excessive loss in the cable. I prefer soldered connections wherever possible.

I also bought some nice bolt on attachments at the hardware store for /pr that have a bar which snugs down with 2 ea 7/16 bolts and nuts on the back side. Now that was a solid connection - I drove the bolts home with my dewalt 3/8" impact driver and a 7/16 socket which grabbed the wire and would not let go, then gave me a big ring to tie to that did not look like someone pounded a crimp lug with a hammer on cement to make it grab!

I realize copper is expensive these days but this stuff was recycled 2 or 3 times over. New copper wire shouldn't look like a 1960's penny under the couch. It sure makes monster cable's oxygen free copper look bright and shiny by comparison. On the other hand, I did especially like the fact that the insulation is color coded properly, red and black. I have seen high current wiring kits where the wire's insulation is entirely black, entirely white, or some other way of not coding the positive and negative by insulation color. Even the space shuttle wiring is ENTIRELY white no matter what purpose it serves. The only identification each white wire gets is a black wrapper with a 4 or 5 digit number that is referenced in the schematics. Nasa's wire is also silver plated copper and thus carries the same current of cruddy copper wire 1 size larger with the same loss and less weight at 10x the price.

Other than the cruddy copper - it's a good value - you're getting 20 feet of #4 cable with precrimped lugs on one end and trimmable to length on the other end with a set of lugs you can pound onto the wire. It certainly has the heft of 20 feet of #4 too - this shipped at over 5 lbs, most of which was the 2 pieces of #4 cable. It ran my inverter just fine so no harm.

You also get a green ground wire to tie your inverter chassis to whatever ground you have, be it in a car or a ground rod in the earth. Like me you probably don't think you need a ground for a battery powered device - when wwas the last time you grounded your remote control? In theory ground wires should cary no current nor any voltage, but the spinning fan on the inverter can cause static electricity. You do need to equalize any static charge buildup or leakage in capacitors, or alternately stray magnetic fields causing voltage in metalic parts. Sure these are small voltages, between 0.5 and 2.0 V but they can flip a logic state if not returned to ground and also making troubleshooting a nuisance. While not absolutely necessary, if you don't ground it be sure that somewhere from the output path of the inverter to your load you have a GFCI plug. That way if the current finds another path back to the battery or to the inverter chassis it will cut off power in a fraction of a second preventing electrocution - yours, not to mention damage to the equipment.

Keep in mind that #4 wire can carry 100's of amps (approaching 1000 amps) and will do a nice job arc welding. Once you get this installed treat it with a great deal of respect. Don't be shocked (no pun intended) when you make the final connection if there is a SMALL arc - emphasis on SMALL - the reason is that there are capacitors in the inverters that help to smooth out the current flow and they charge instantly when power is applied. When finished, disconnect from the battery. Use some extra caution when using tools like crecent wrenches around deep cycle batteries = don't bridge to the other terminal. I had an electrician drop a crescent wrench inside a pac bell phone central office onto the -48VDC buss bars that powered the building's phone switch. It didn't even blow the fuse - just vaporized the wrench into sputter. We crawled down to the buss bars and there was nothing even resembling a wrench where it made contact with the -48VDC bars. This product box even has a warning that if you are not familiar with high current wiring have someone who is do it.

As it should be...
As the title says, "As it should be" cables are cables and it has a function. So far so good, no problems. I am happy with this product. Only reason why I didn't give it a five star is the price. Kind of a bit high for my taste. Need to do more research on prices around the web, maybe there are cheaper prices with the same product and quality.

my garmin mount broke and I went on the Garmin website to order one only to find it was over .00. I found it much cheaper on Amazon. It is the exact one on the Garmin website. Great job.

best mount around
this mount is great! It is high quality and so universal, because you can mount it to the windshield or the disk that comes with it goes right on the dash,and by the way it stays on! Also you can turn and tilt to your desire, now what more can you ask for.

Finally, replacement of lost original
This was an exact replacement of the original, I have a Nuvi 750 and this Nuvi 760 part works on it as well; it arrived on time, new and works like it should.

Complete car kit replacement
I had lost my Garmin mounting/charging kit for my automobile. Garmin wanted way too much to send me out a replacement, so I found this on Amazon. It is stamped with Garmin's name and logo, leading me to believe it is just exactly the same as the original. I cannot tell any difference. Subsequently, I found my original equipment a couple days ago, when side by side there is no difference in the replacement and original. Great product, at a better price than Garmin would give. BTW, I like the way this mount/charger works as you plug the cord into the mount, then the Garmin into the mount. You do not have to mess with putting it in the mount, then getting cord and plugging it into the Garmin every time like I did with an earlier model. Easy to take Garmin out with one hand and take it in house at night to prevent theft.

Best Radar Detector

short power cord
I recently bought model XSR9945, first it is big and heavy. The windshield suction cup is a terrible design, it won't hold up the unit and the suction cups won't stick to the windshield ( there too small). The power cord is too short to reach my windshield in a Subaru Outback. The power cord should be a straight cord, without the curls to reach and maybe put out of the way to your vision (if you can get it to stay on the windshield, mine's on the dash now). I would probably go to a store next time to see how big it is before I bought another one, size does matter !

This was my first radar detector--I drive conservatively, ie, the speed limit, but due to the great number of work zones constantly popping up along a several state route that I often take, I decided to buy one (work zones usually, but not always, come with good signage requiring deceleration but I thought that an additional prompt would help for safety reasons particularly if a situation of reduced visibility developed). I read numerous reviews of various detectors before I bought this one. The price range is broad. I settled on this one because of value, it seemed. One review which I read before buying began with its writer saying, "up front" that cost was the primary factor in his purchase of the Whistler XTR-265 and he then went on to give a glowing review. I bought and have used this unit three times, all highway. The first was a 60 mile jaunt on an interstate in NYS and the unit seemed to perform adequately: it lit up and beeped and then came the cruiser, allowing ample time to ensure that you're at or below the posted speed. The second was pretty much the same. I did notice during both jaunts a few, what seemed to be, stray beeps with unit's registering up to 3 (on a 1 to 9 scale) on the "X" band (with the unit set to highway) there being nothing that I could see anywhere which should have triggered this-- coming or going, nor was I close to houses. So that was puzzling. But the real problem was yet to come: On my third outing, I drove 400 miles through three states (NY, NJ & PA). I went past a NYS trooper in his vehicle at a right angle to the traffic facing my direction and the unit registered nothing, zero--no sound, no light. I came within 25 feet of the trooper's car. I mulled this over as the miles went on and concluded that for whatever odd reason, he must have had his unit off (I later asked my cousin about this--he's a retired trooper and he said, "Unlikely"). But wait. About 150 miles later and during that same third outing on an interstate in PA, the identical situation happened again--I mean identical. I passed the nose of the state trooper's vehicle as he was watching traffic. I looked at the unit--it was on, on the right setting, volume up. It was like it was supposed to be but did nothing. I later called Whistler and spoke to someone there who actually posited that both troopers had their units off--I got nowhere with her and she seemed to be responding to me from a FAQ page and did not really have a grasp of the technicalities of the product, and never ventured into them. She suggested that I return the product telling me that I have "thirty days". Good suggestion.

I purchased this as a replacement for my venerable Beltronics 980. I radar/laser detector will save a lot of time and money if you use it right.

I bought this item because I've read a lot of good reviews on it, so I bought it. Overall its been okay... The device detects a lot of security alarms and garage doors, so it goes off quite a bit for "no" reason. Although the functionality of the device is great, City, City 1, City 2 and Highway modes are great, as well as the Dim/Dark settings for night time driving! It also has a couple quiet modes but i do not use them since you can just turn the volume down! Its a nice product, very well made and functional but it does detect useless things at times. Besides the detection of security systems and so on, it is a nice product.

Great Economy Unit...All Most Should Need
I will admit up front that I bought this unit based solely on price. That, and the fact I am a long time buyer of Whistler radar detectors. Like another reviewer here, my first experience with a radar detector was a now ancient "fuzz buster" that never really failed on me, but merely became obsolete over time. I took a long break over the years from radar detectors mostly due to the fact that I am older now and hardly ever in that much of a hurry. Unfortunately under the disguise of supposedly only being interested in saving our lives, radar traps and pull overs from rolling radar has increased dramatically over the last few years where I live. Severe financial problems on the state and local level has been holding us in its iron grip here long before it became fashionable nation wide. So now that things have gone from normally flat busted to fiddling with financial collapse, the police in the state have expanded their role as peace makers to that of rolling revenue agents. There was a long time here where friendly warnings where handed out generously for a 40 plus year driver like myself cruising a couple of miles over the speed limit. The police had bigger fish they were after. A true vehicular desperado I was not. Those days of yore have unfortunately vanished in the wake of the towns and states flashing empty pockets all around.

In an effort not to see my own contribution to the problem come at the hands of purportedly "saving my life", I purchased this Whistler 265 model about 6 months ago. I was quite taken aback by the wide range of prices on these units at first. The last time I bought one there was perhaps a price difference between the economy model and a true space age unit. Now it can be as high as 0 or more. Since this 265 was a Whistler that was capable of picking up all the radar technology currently available, and cost about , I decided this was the one for me. All I can say from my own experience with this fine unit is I can only imagine what those higher priced models really do, for this 265 seems to perform it all quite nicely. Simply put, its the best I have spent in a very long time. The 265 is easy to install on your windshield with the bracket provided, and a coil style cord plugs into your cigarette lighter, or 12 volt outlet that just about all cars provide these days. (If you prefer to install on your dash or elsewhere, a velcro strip will hold this unit easily). As far as features, the 265 seems to have all one could ask for. This Whistler provides tone alerts, quiet modes, numeric icon displays, alert priority, and even a vehicle battery saver. It also has both visual and audible alerts, and a volume control. As far as actually detecting and warning you of any radar in the area, mine has so far never missed a beat. Although I am not much of a heavy footer that needs as much advanced warning as possible, I would have to say that any warning that does come from the 265 has been in advance enough to save me from being picked up in about 80% of the cases, or more. It is especially capable in picking up stationary radar, which although a lot of advertisements for these devices claim has gone out of style in favor of rolling radar, is still well in vogue here in my neck of the woods. I have picked up signals so far in advance in some of the stationary cases that at times I felt the the detector is picking up something else. Then lo and behold, smokey appears on the side of the road. For rolling radar, the advance warning is a little more random, but still very effective in my opinion. It is omni directional and will pick up a radar signal far off the side of you as easily as it does ahead, or behind you. I love this little unit and feel it is personally the best deal in detectors that there is going on the market presently.

In conclusion, I should mention that I live in a small town. There are no real heavily congested areas, or locales where there is any real city atmosphere. So my detector doesn't really have to work that hard at distinguishing alarms and doors openers from the real McCoy. If you live in a city or any form of heavily congested area with a lot of commerce, it very well may be a good idea to move up to a higher priced, more sensitive model. Personally I feel that the only difference between the high ticket radar detectors and this model is their ability to differentiate between real speed radar, and any other device that uses the same technology. That, and perhaps a little more technology in giving you a shade more warning. For a small town atmosphere like where I live, I honestly feel that the Whistler XTR-265 is all the radar detector you should ever need. Unless you simply love to speed, or the local police seem to have a special fondness for you, why pay more. A good, solid, dependable unit. Highly recommended...

Replacement Whistler
I replaced an acient Whistler that missed four different cops shooting something on the Interstate on a trip to FL. I then took another trip to FL with the XTR-265 and it showed me every cop plus is better at ignoring auto doors. I picked this unit for the reputation of Whistler from my experience and written reviews. Now that I have a unit that will show me the cops everywhere I can travel without worrying about speed traps. This unit also remembers the last settings so you don't have to change them every time you start your car. BTW: I still have my original Fuzz Buster from the 70's sitting on a shelf as a memento.
